Are the Tips on Your Wrought Iron and Aluminum Fence Pointy and Sharp?

We get a lot of questions on if the tips on our fence are pointy and sharp.  The tips are called finials (fin-e-alls) and our standard ones are not pointy and sharp.  Our iron fence finials are solid cast iron and the aluminum fence finials are solid cast aluminum.  The castings are rounded and have a safety ball on the top.  This is to ensure that if you fall over on the fence, it will not impale you.  It might not be a fun experience, but it won’t leave you poked full of holes either.  We do this as a safety measure and to meet code in many municipalities.  I included a close up photo of our standard iron and aluminum finials below.

As you can see in the images above, they are not pointy or sharp, but they are enough to give someone a second though about climbing over the fence.

If you are still concerned about the finials sticking up on top, we do offer a flat topped iron and aluminum panel in our Pool style #2.  The heights are limited to 50″ tall in iron and 54″ tall in aluminum, but they offer a flat/ flush top and bottom to the panel so that all the picket is contained between the horizontal rails.

I've been working in the fence industry since 2009 with a wide array of installation, sales and marketing experience. I've had lots of experience with different types of iron and aluminum fence and gate installations. Generally a 'DIY' kind of guy when it comes to a wide array of projects.
