Everyone typically comes to us wanting one type of fence over the other, but can you tell the difference between the two on looks alone?
In taking to thousands of different customers over the years, I find it interesting that many people come to us with a choice already made on whether they want to go with an iron or aluminum fence. One half thinks that iron is too old looking, it’s rusty and just not a nice product. The other thinks all aluminum is cheap looking and too flimsy.
Check out the video we did or read on to see if you can easily tell the difference!
Take a look at the pieces of our Signature grade iron fence and Signature grade aluminum fence below. Can you tell which is the iron piece and which is the aluminum piece?
If you guessed correctly that the iron piece was on the left and the aluminum piece was on the right, great job! But, c’mon. You had a 50-50 chance of getting the right answer!
The point I’m driving at is that appearance-wise, there is not a big difference between the two. There are project scenarios where one outshines the other, but on appearance alone there is not necessarily a ‘better looking’ one.
Starting with our Traditional and Signature grade iron fence pieces (pictured below), it’s constructed by punching the horizontal rail, passing the picket through and welding it from underneath to connect the two. Lastly, the solid iron finial tip is welded on top of the picket.
Moving to our Traditional and Signature aluminum fence pieces (pictured below), it’ also constructed by punching a horizontal rail and passing the picket through. However, you will see that the aluminum piece has a taller rail and a screw that is driven through the rail into the picket to hold it together. Lastly, the solid aluminum finial tip is welded on top of the picket. We are the ONLY manufacturer offering solid welded on aluminum fence finials.
So, there you go. Appearance-wise, iron and aluminum fence are not that different from each other. No matter which fence material you end up choosing, you can be confident that it will a functional and beautiful addition to your yard.
